I found this sweet reverse patch for 1.7-.1.6, its soo easy. You don't have top reinstall the game. All you do is download the files and replace them (remember to keep your 1.7 files in case you wanna go backhttp://www.sylfaster.co.uk/CoD4_Downloads/Reverse_1.6_files.zip)
I saw some people posting that they upgraded to 1.7 and could not play on their paid 1.6 servers because the server was linux. So untill the linux patch comes out there is a way to downgrade back to 1.6 and viseverser. This will help anyone who wishes to downgrade their CoD4 from version 1.7, back to version 1.6.Taken from: http://www.mariannedemooy.com/geeklog/html/article.php/1.7-patch-1.6-version-downloadQuote:QuoteCall of Duty 4 : Reverse 1.7 patch to 1.6 patch version.Overwrite the 1.7 files with the 1.6 files to go back to 1.6 version of CoD4.Download (29 MB) :http://www.sylfaster.co.uk/CoD4_Downloads/Reverse_1.6_files.zip*Note* Incase you make a mistake, I advise you to copy the original 1.7 files that are going to be replaced to a seperate location, then continue to put the 1.6 files in. You can also change the files back to 1.7 and start playing 1.7 again, so you can switch at will. Now to get this to work, you will also need to change the version in your registry so after you have replaced the files in the folders. To do this go: Start Menu > Run > type "regedit" and hit enterNow in the registry do not touch anything else, but now you go.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Activision > Call Of Duty 4 > and here you change the version to 1.6 for MP and SP.
