I was surfing the Web for another way to go back to version 1.6 of CoD4 without reinstaling. Check out what i found, Hope it helps. I put most things in quotes Due to it comming from other forums.

This will help anyone who wishes to downgrade their CoD4 from version 1.7, back to version 1.6.

*Note* Incase you make a mistake, I advise you to copy the original 1.7 files that are going to be replaced to a seperate location, then continue to put the 1.6 files in. You can also change the files back to 1.7 and start playing 1.7 again, so you can switch at will.

Now to get this to work, you will also need to change the version in your registry so after you have replaced the files in the folders.

To do this go: Start Menu > Run > type "regedit" and hit enter
Now in the registry do not touch anything else, but now you go.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Activision > Call Of Duty 4 > and here you change the version to 1.6 for MP and SP.

Easiest way, just copy your existing 1.7 folder and just download the 1.6 patch run the installer and select manual folder selection and select your copied version of call of duty 4 and run 1.6 patch and your good to go.

Guy's,

I had installed the 1.7 patch today and now am unable to play on MC. I tried the above reverse patch but it keeps telling me this.

Unable to locate component. Application has failed to start MSS32.ll was not found.

I deleted it all and tried again and it will say the same thing. Now what can I do?

Calico pointed me to the reverse patch but it is not working.

Hey, the easiest way is just download the 1.6 patch and run it like normal. Should work.

Well, it is fixed but I lost my player profile and had to start all over on ranking. That sucks but hey I bet it helps my game.

Do this guys, install CoD with 1.6 patch and go to the main CoD folder and copy iw3mp.exe, version.inf and another file on the folder "main" and copy iw_13.iwd, copy those files in a safe folder, then install the 1.7 patch and copy those files mentioned AGAIN BUT IN A DIFRENT FOLDER!!! then any time u want a patch version subtitute them with the files belonging to that said version that should do it.

Copy 1.6 files then add 1.7 files then ihad two seperate CODMW2MPs then i tried to get on the nit went invalid something or other then said no profile on either then my cod crashed and i had to uninstall it.

Look at the green start key at the bottom left of your screen..with your mouse left click on it...now left click on my computer....now left click on local disk (c:)......now left click on program files....now left click on Activision.....now left click on Call of Duty 4/ Modern Warfare.....now left click on players...now left click on profiles....now take your profile folder and drag it out of your the player folder and put it on your desk top.....now delete the game from your hard drive which is done through add or remove programs under your control panel under the start....when you re-download you simply go back to player file and re-drag the profile from your desk top back in, you may need to create a dummy profile in the multi-player game to get the player file to show up...Good luck!
